Description
Your tour leader waits at the Starhotels Terminus in Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi, and the same spot is where the day ends. This Vesuvius and Pompeii day trip runs by air-conditioned bus, with live commentary on board and a small group.
The mountain comes first. You climb to about 1,000 metres to look into the crater and across the Gulf of Naples, while a local guide explains the history of the volcano. Afterwards there is a lunch break with pizza and soft drinks, then the road to Pompeii.
There you follow the paths of the archaeological site with a local guide, in the city buried by the eruption of 79 AD. The visit passes through:
- baths and bakeries
- theatres
- fresco paintings and mosaics
Vesuvius, the lunch and the park ticket belong to the full-day option, and the Pompeii ticket is included. The shorter version is a different length, so pick the one you want when booking. Departure time is only a guide: the agency gets in touch with the exact time and meeting point, and a valid passport must be carried. If the crater is shut because of bad weather, a tasting of wine and local products on the slopes takes its place.
