Description
This Pompeii shore excursion from Naples is built for cruise passengers: a coach collects you at the port, takes you to the site and brings you back. On site, an archaeologist guide leads about two and a half hours on foot, with skip-the-line tickets and headsets to hear every word.
Your walk begins at Porta Marina Inferiore. You pass the Forum, where public life centred, then the Basilica, the seat of justice, the Temple of Apollo, the busy market and a thermopolium, a Roman snack bar in remarkable condition. You step into the public baths and see the mosaics of the House of the Faun, and the Lupanar gives a frank look at Roman intimacy. The visit closes with the plaster casts of the victims, a haunting sight of people caught as the volcano erupted.
The whole outing, including the transfer, takes about five hours. Guiding is in English or Spanish. Food and drinks are not included, and the tour is not suitable for wheelchair users. Carry a bottle of water and a camera.
