Description
This Pompeii and Vesuvius tour from Sorrento packs the two best-known sites of the bay into one full day, about seven hours with the transport handled for you. Minivan or minibus picks you up in Sorrento and drives you to Pompeii.
There, an English-speaking guide leads a two-hour visit through the streets of the town buried by volcanic ash. You see houses, frescoes and everyday objects that survived, and hear how its inhabitants lived. Entry to the site is included.
After a short break, the group heads to Mount Vesuvius. The hike up to the crater takes about an hour and a half with a digital audio guide in English, French, Spanish, Italian or German. On the way up the Bay of Naples opens out below, and at the top you look into the crater of a volcano that is still active.

The tour runs in any weather, provided both sites are open. If Vesuvius closes, a visit to Herculaneum replaces it. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen and water, plus a raincoat if rain is forecast. It is not for children under 6 or people with mobility impairments.
