Description
The Islet of Megaride is the small island of Naples on which Castel dell'Ovo stands. Today it is connected to the mainland by sea fill, but originally Megaride was just a few meters away from the coastline. Currently, the castle is surrounded at its base by a characteristic village of restaurants and a few houses called Borgo Marinari, which can be accessed via Via Partenope. Religious cults in the Greek era were based on those imported by the founders, and certainly one of the oldest among them was the cult of the siren Partenope, already known in Eastern Greece before the founding of the city. According to an ancient myth, already known in Eastern Greece, even before the founding of Neapolis, the body of the siren Partenope was buried at Megaride, having been brought ashore by the sea to that area after she let herself die following Ulisse's rejection.
